Nervous System and Mental Health

Maybe it will be a little repetitive but the nervous system is really amazing and interesting and at the same time mysterious. Literally, everything you do or you don't do is because of it. Since we were kids in those biology classes when we first learn about the human body, the first thing we are told is that the ''brain is the boss''. So how can we not be curious about it?
The nervous system is, mostly, in every part of our body, very complex and complete. It is divided principally in two: the central nervous system (brain and the spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (the nerves). As extra data: the spinal cord has a weight of 30 gr and a large of, approximately, 45 cm; the human brain has weight of 1,4 kg and his measures are close to 1.200 cm3, by the other hand the characteristics of this kind are not certain for a nerve because it depends a lot of the type.

Like I said before, the nervous system is the ''boss'', all our mental capacities are possible because of it; we can think, move, imagine, feel; the five senses!, a infinity of possibilities.
Also related to this system is a very big list of diseases, some of the most known ones are Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or Epilepsy caused by failures in the normal function of the brain. The consequences of them obviously affects directly in the daily life of a person. Though there is a way to ''prevent'' them, there aren't 100% reliable.

Keeping with this issue, even though this isn't related to the nervous system directly but i'm going to put a little emphasis in the psychiatric disorders. The mental illnesses always were present; the thing is that they were taken as taboo or like a very bad thing in the past, because they couldn't understand it. In the pass of the years the science started to develop knowledge about it. The causes of mental disorders are often unclear, it's said that's a combination of biological, psychological and social factors but that don't remove the impact in the life of a person, the thinking, the mood and the behavior. Nowadays, those are demonstrating be more present, that's bad! So taking care of the mental health is really important too, just don't forget it.

  1. It is true, our brain is one of the most interesting organs in our bodies, but also, one of the most mysterious, if not the most.

  2. Sometimes people take some mental illnesses lightly, so it is necessary to visit a specialist, because they can be worse than a physical illness.
